Goya lived on the fringe of society in the paradoxical situation of having an inclination to a middle class existence, close to the circles of power, while his caustic perceptions caused him to deride an archaic and prejudiced society. Francisco Goya was born in a village called “Fuentetodos”, meaning “Springs for all”, which is situated in a lunar landscape that lacks the most precious element present in most villages of Aragon: a river with fertile banks in contrast with the barren mountains that surround. But the land exhibits a primary duality, for its evident roughness covers a hidden tenderness. Goya’s character, at once rude and delicate, remains the best symbol of the region
