Nicknamed “El Greco”, Domenikos Theotokopoulos came to Spain attracted by the numerous artistic orders Felipe II made for his palace at El Escorial. The King did not fancy his paintings, but the artist found in Toledo a place to spend the rest of his life till his death in 1641.

He was soon forgotten and even despised, until a group of young artists – Modernists from Catalunya – discovered his works in a museum of Barcelona.

This documentary describes the life of El Greco and how the painter was rehabilitated during the 19th and 20th centuries by major artists like Rusinol and Picasso.
